Research

After a hiatus in the fall, I’ve now returned to organizing the documents I photographed on a trip to Philadelphia last year, visiting the Historical Society of Pennsylvania for the papers of Benjamin Rush, Henry Drinker, and other Philadelphians who in the 1790s funded attempts to replace cane sugar with maple sugar “plantations.” This was a followup to April’s trip to the Hartwick College archives, trawling the William Cooper papers for material on his maple sugar scheme of 1790-1791.
